Summary

Born to a life of wealth and status, Mademoiselle Dacia de Prideux is every inch the glittering aristocrat. However, her brother, Marcel, is an outspoken political activist, and with the country on the verge of the French Revolution, he has made dangerous enemies—one of whom takes Marcel's life. When Dacia is accused of the unthinkable crime, she finds refuge with her dear friend Marguerite St. Just, who believes there is one man with the means to help: that wealthy fop, Sir Percy Blakeney.
Intent on rescuing people from perilous circumstances, Richard Harris, wealthy English landowner and member of Sir Percy's league of gentleman heroes, has been assigned to protect Dacia. Hiding her in plain sight and masquerading her as a housemaid at his estate, Richard soon comes to trust the beautiful woman under his protection, and their feelings for each other grow stronger each day. But Marcel's murderer will never stop pursuing Dacia, and she will need both her cunning and Richard's connection to the legendary Scarlet Pimpernel to survive.

My Review

A REVOLUTION OF HEARTS is a story that is based off the classic, The Scarlet Pimpernel, but focuses on one of the members of his group and a French aristocrat who must flee for her life. The story is unique in its telling and entertaining from the first to the last page. Readers will enjoy getting to know these characters and cheer them on to the climatic end. Highly recommended!

I somehow had forgotten, when I started reading this, that it was set during the French Revolution and a spin off of the classic story of The Scarlet Pimpernel, which is a story I have always loved. It was quite a delightful surprise to find myself in the middle of this Frenchwoman's desperate flee to safety across the channel to England and to see her views change as she became one of the lower class. Delightful because I love reading stories like this, where there are a group of people trying to protect and save others, with the secrets that must be kept and the danger that evokes. In this story, the author mostly focusses on her heroine and hero and their time in England along with a switch in POV to the villain here and there. I loved getting to know these characters and to see them develop and grow, particularly Dacia whose whole opinion changes in regards to the distinction of the classes and things below her station. She shows that she has quite a backbone and stubbornness to survive. Of course I loved Richard in all his gallantry and uncertainty that made him feel human, and I also loved Edith who became a good friend to Dacia.

The story moved at a good pace. I never lost interest and it was rather difficult to put down. It also built up here and there, but especially intensified towards the end in regards to the suspense and danger. The romance was very sweet and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. There was a bit of humor, which I also enjoyed.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but this story was a delightful surprise and the perfect escape for a mostly cozy read. Definitely recommended to those who enjoy historical stories with a bit of suspense, well drawn characters, and sweet romance.
