Author Interview
I grabbed hold of this idea, ‘What if everyone had an expiration date?’ There were more questions than answers, but the possibilities were abundant. I had no clue where I was going with this idea, but I had to find out.
What do you love the most about this story?
Wow, I have a few favs. I still get all giddy when the plot starts to unravel, it’s like re-discovering the conspiracies and twists all over again. But, I have to say that I also really enjoy the relationships between the characters. Especially Jack and Elisa; they share an unspoken loyalty that I admire.
What challenged you about writing it?
I didn’t actually find any challenges with writing during the pandemic, but I was definitely limited on many of the ways I was able to market the book. I’m a talker, so I was really disappointed to know that I couldn’t get out and meet my readers face to face. Though, I have enjoyed learning new ways to engage with people over social media.
Which character do you most relate to and why?
I mostly relate to Ashlei Killian! As much as I’d like to think that I am more like Elisa or Claude, I probably wouldn’t be as bold, taking the risks they’ve taken. I am a bit more reserved, doing the behind the scenes research.
What do you hope readers will take with them after they’ve read it?
There are a couple things I would love for readers to take with them. The issues going on that exist right now. We already take for granted the valuable natural resources around us. And with an ever growing population, it’s critical that we preserve what we have by being diligent about how we use them. Also, I think that there is a strength in all of us that is hugely underrated. Sometimes our strengths can be construed as weakness in our society and in fact these are the things that give us a stable foundation.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not writing?
I am a writer and a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist in a Cardiac Catherization lab in Upstate New York. I enjoy camping; hiking; extensive time in, on or by the water and consider myself an amateur photographer.

Expiration Date
By Mardine Perrins
Medical Thriller, Dystopian
Paperback & ebook, 304 Pages
March 4, 2021 by Kat Biggie Press
A conspiracy theory no one would have guessed.
It’s 2168 and expiration dates have been a part of the human genome for the last hundred years. Society has grown accustomed to these birthmark dates, revealing the day you will expire. But suddenly, an exponential number of infants are being born across the globe with very short expiration dates, giving them only hours, days to live.
Elisa Quinn’s cousin’s baby is amongst these born with shockingly short expiration dates. Devastated over the rapid demise of the baby, Elisa begins to search for answers. Not satisfied by the response the global government is providing for the growing number of short expiration dates, she sets out to discover what could be behind this alarming trend. Aided by two scientists, Ashlei Quinn and Claude Monark, Elisa investigates the long-standing gestational supplement of nutriment injections as a potential source in the shortened dates.
While researching, the trio uncover an extremist group, Restituere. They learn of the group’s plot to control the growth of the population, potentially exterminating a large portion in the process.
Armed with their new revelations, Elisa and Claude travel to Boston seeking help from the one person they thought they could count on, only to find themselves fighting for their lives. Unable to trust anyone, they venture out on their own to interrupt Restituere’s plot. They soon find themselves in the middle of a deep global conspiracy, and in the crosshairs of those who would stop at nothing to see this plot through.
Unless they can prevent this deadly group’s plans, their loved ones will be lost and the human race altered forever.
If you love Dan Brown’s, Deception Point; Michael Crichton’s, The Andromeda Strain; and A.G. Riddle’s, The Atlantis Gene, you will love Expiration Date.
