Summary
My Review
MY FAIR GENTLEMAN is another great addition to A Proper Romance line! Jack's dream is to captain his own ship and is only stopped by a dying grandfather's will and the love of his mother and sister. Aided by Lady Ivy, who is too easy to tease, Jack seeks to become a gentleman of the ton. The characters were fun and full of personality. With humor and witty banter, societal expectations, and a slow-burning romance, this was an enjoyable book from beginning to end.
I have high expectations when I pick up a book from this A Proper Romance line. I expect characters I will root for, sweet romance, a fairly accurate historical setting, and a story I will love. This story met those expectations.
I found Jack to be a really fun character and equally matched by Ivy. Jack is a little rough around the edges, but he puts on a good show and really makes Ivy put in her time. Ivy also puts on a good face, but underneath she is an intelligent, spirited woman who has to hold herself in because of a scandal. They were so fun together! Throw in some other characters, particularly Ivy's grandmother, and it was a great group.
I loved how the romance blossomed in this story. Jack and Ivy spend quite a bit of time together and are definitely at odds in the beginning even though they both have the best intentions and hearts. They become a team over time from what began as a business arrangement, to friendship, to attraction, and the possibility of something more. I loved that this was completely clean, but still had plenty of chemistry and some swoon-worthy moments.
If you enjoy sweet historical romances with a dashing rogue, a proper lady who is a little bit of a spitfire, some humor, and a slowly-building romance, then I'd recommend MY FAIR GENTLEMAN.
