Summary
Lyrian Wallace was only ten years old when the Malevolence struck on October 10, 2056. She thought the next decade had numbed her to the grief, the death, the bots, and the daily struggle for survival. She lost her parents when they became Sleepers, but like everyone else, she had pieced together a new family. Lyrian was almost content when the Alliance began taking them . . .
The world always took things away from her. She could only live for today and never dared to hope for any heaven. But when her circumstances change, Lyrian must choose how she might live for both this life and the next.

The Walking Never-Lived: Zombie Bots in WoE Is Us
The undead have been very popular this century. Vampire stories have been huge for a long time, both in books and on screen. Zombies have staggered and shuffled (and then run surprisingly fast?) through books, movies, television shows, and video games. They’ve battled plants and opened monster hotels. Brad Pitt has both battled zombies and been a vampire. Jane Austen classics have had zombie makeovers. The Amish have battled vampires in space. People even prep for the zombie apocalypse, though I hope they’re not serious. In short, the undead have become a big deal.
Honest confession: I’m not a big fan of undead books and movies. I don’t like the gory images involved. It’s just not my thing.
But, there’s one thing I’ve always really like about confronting the undead in stories: the relentless, dreadful opponent. In these stories, the heroes must overcome a seemingly unstoppable enemy. They are forced to ask the classic question: How do you kill something that’s already dead? I love the hopeless tension created by such a dire scenario. A wonderful example of what I’m talking about was the Nazgul (Ringwraith) chase in the first Lord of the Rings movie. I loved the intensity of those scenes where Frodo was being hunted. These were some of my favorite parts of that movie franchise.
When I wrote my Christian dystopian novel “WoE Is Us,” I wanted to incorporate that same dreadful feeling while avoiding the gory elements. It was an interesting dilemma, but at the heart I knew my solution would involve an enemy that can’t be killed. After some brainstorming, I thought of using robots as the zombie-like, relentless entities for my book. In the novel, the bots are driven mad by an insidious computer virus, and the surviving humans must avoid the bots to achieve their ultimate goals. Of course, the bots are only part of the problem.
